Byron Bay is more than just another beach town. It’s a whole vibe – surf, relax, chill, and unwind. It’s that spot where time slows down, and you suddenly realize how good it feels to live barefoot for a while. The vibe here is easy-going, creative, andfull of good energy.

Byron Bay is way more than just a surf town. Of course, the beaches are amazing, but the hinterland is equally worth exploring. From laid-back surf spots to waterfalls and green hills – there’s so much to see within a short drive.
Cape Byron Lighthouse
If you visit Byron Bay, you can’t skip the Cape Byron Lighthouse. It’s the easternmost point of Australia and one of the most scenic spots we’ve ever seen. The walk up to the lighthouse is beautiful, with endless ocean views. We love going early in the morning or around sunset when the light turns everything golden. It’s also one of the best places to spot dolphins or whales during migration season.
The Farm Byron Bay
Just a few minutes outside town, The Farm is the perfect spot for families. It’s a mix of restaurant, café, and real working farm, all surrounded by peaceful countryside. You can walk around freely, see the animals, and watch how everything on the farm connects to nature. Our kids loved it here – it’s super family-friendly, safe to explore, and entry is free. You only pay for what you eat or drink, which makes it even better for a relaxed afternoon. The food is organic, fresh, and served in a lovely open-air setting. Honestly, it’s one of those places where time just flies. We went for a quick visit and ended up spending half the day here, sitting in the sun, watching the kids run around, and enjoying that calm Byron energy.
Byron Bay Town
Byron’s town center is small but full of life. It’s a mix of surf shops, smoothie bars, and boutique stores with that typical Byron vibe – easy, creative, and colorful. We spent hours just wandering around, getting coffee, and watching people. The atmosphere here is unlike anywhere else in Australia – relaxed but full of energy at the same time.
Minyon Falls
If you have time for a short road trip, head out to the Byron hinterland and visit Minyon Falls. Getting there is already an adventure on its own – winding roads, lush rainforest, and views that make you stop more than once for photos. And then there’s the moment we’ll never forget – we finally spotted our first wild koala, sitting calmly in a tree right along the road. That alone made the trip unforgettable. The waterfall itself is breathtaking. There’s a lookout with incredible views over the valley, and if you’re in the mood for some action, you can hike down to the base of the Falls. It’s a bit of a workout, but the scenery makes it more than worth it. This is a completely different side of Byron – wild, quiet, and full of magic. Definitely a must if you want to escape the coastal crowds for a few hours.
Our Favorite Stay in Byron Bay: Cozy, Relaxed, and Close to the Beach
For both of our stays in Byron Bay, we chose the Ocean Suite Byron Bay – and honestly, we couldn’t have made a better decision. You can find it on Airbnb and Booking, located in Suffolk Park, just about a five-minute drive from Byron’s lively town center. Technically it’s a bit outside, but it truly feels like part of Byron itself. The location couldn’t be better. From Tallow Beach, you can walk all the way to the famous Cape Byron Lighthouse, one of the area’s most iconic spots. The beach is almost at your doorstep – a short stroll through the quiet streets and you’re there.
When we first stayed here, we were blown away by the place. It’s super cozy, beautifully designed, and feels instantly like home. So when we returned to Byron Bay the second time, we didn’t even think twice – we booked it again. It might not be the biggest place we’ve stayed in, but it wins hands down when it comes to style, coziness, and that incredible bathroom. Hidden away in a gated community, it’s peaceful, private, and honestly a solid 10/10 stay for anyone who loves calm mornings and beach walks right outside the door.
Travel to Byron Bay Transportation Guide – How We Explored the Region
When it comes to getting around Byron Bay, we learned one thing pretty fast – having your own car makes life so much easier. We trusted our rental car from day one and never regretted it. The freedom to stop wherever we wanted, chase a sunset, or take an unplanned detour into the hinterland was priceless. The roads around Byron are easy to drive, well-signed, and mostly in great condition. Just keep in mind that Australia drives on the left-hand side, and roundabouts are everywhere. Once you get used to it, it feels natural. We loved how laid-back driving here felt – no rush, no stress, just good music and ocean views along the way.
That said, if you don’t want to drive, there are a few other options. Bikes and e-scooters are popular inside the town. The distances are short, and cycling from the main area to the beach is super easy. Taxis and rideshares like Uber are also available, though prices can add up quickly, especially during peak hours. There’s also a local bus network that connects Byron Bay with nearby towns like Ballina, Bangalow, and Mullumbimby. It’s not the fastest, but it works fine for short trips or budget travelers. For those coming from Brisbane or the Gold Coast, long-distance buses like Greyhound and Premier Motor Service stop right in Byron’s center.

Byron Bay is packed with picture-perfect corners. From sunrise at the Cape Byron Lighthouse to long beach walks at Tallow Beach or surf sessions at The Pass, there’s no shortage of photo moments here. Travel to Byron Bay FAQ – Your Questions Answered
The best time to visit Byron Bay is from September to April. That’s when the weather is warm, the ocean is perfect for swimming, and the sunsets are unreal. December to February can be busier, but the vibe is still relaxed.
We’d say three to five days is ideal. It gives you enough time to explore the beaches, the lighthouse walk, the town, and even do a short trip to Minyon Falls or The Farm.
Byron Bay doesn’t have its own airport, but it’s close to Ballina Airport (30min) and Gold Coast Airport (1 hour). We always rent a car – it’s the easiest way to move around.
