Traveling to the Maldives with Baby in Tow: How we get there

Our journey began from Berlin to Frankfurt, and from Frankfurt, we headed to Male. Travel to Maldives with a baby in tow, every step of the journey required careful planning and consideration. Upon arrival in Male, one might think the journey is complete. However, it was just the beginning as we continued our adventure with a short seaplane ride to the island. This turned out to be a highlight, exceeding our expectations, unlike our second trip to the Maldives.

Having previously traveled with our baby to Hawaii, we knew the importance of preparation. Investing in ear protectors for our little one was worth it, as seaplanes can get extremely loud. Normally, the flight itself feels like a sightseeing tour. The views from above are simply breathtaking.

Entry Checks & Friendly Welcomes

Arriving at the resort, we were instantly captivated—it truly felt like stepping into a dream, just as we had hoped. Originally planning for an eight-day stay, we had concerns about potential monotony. However, any doubts were swiftly dispelled during the flight.

A fellow passenger, casually strolling off the plane barefoot, reassured us: “Your first visit won’t be your last.” Little did we know, he was right. Our second trip to the Maldives would soon follow.

Our experience with entry procedures in the Maldives was surprisingly smooth, with warm greetings awaiting us at every turn. From passport checks to the heartfelt welcome at the resort, our journey with our little one began on a high note.

Your Ideal Getaway: Essential Factors for Selecting Your Maldives Resorts

Before diving into your Maldives getaway, take a moment to run through a quick checklist. Consider what you prefer and what you’re looking forward to in your perfect stay in paradise. From the type of accommodation to dining choices and activities, making sure your chosen resort matches your desires is crucial for crafting an unforgettable experience in the Maldives. Let’s explore the key factors to help you pick the perfect resort for your dream vacation.

Room Selection: Finding Your Ideal Retreat

When planning our Maldives getaway, we initially debated splitting our stay between a Beach Bungalow and concluding with a Water Bungalow. However, tempted by the allure of a once-in-a-lifetime experience, we opted for the Water Bungalow for the entirety of our stay. While it may not have been the most budget-friendly choice, every penny spent was undoubtedly worth it. We relished each day, especially the priceless opportunity to snorkel directly from our own bungalow. When travel to the Maldives with a baby, it’s essential to consider that an open water villa requires extra attention and vigilance due to the surroundings.

Dining Option

In general, we highly recommend considering at least half-board when booking your accommodation. Opting for full-board or all-inclusive packages can be more economical in the long run, as extras on the resort can quickly add up. A seemingly cheap deal with only breakfast included may end up costing several hundred euros extra if hunger strikes.

Facilities and Amenities

Evaluate the resort’s amenities, including dining options, spa services, water sports activities, childcare services, and entertainment offerings, to ensure they align with your interests and needs. It may be worth requesting price lists for these services, as a massage for €100 is unlikely in the Maldives. However, it also doesn’t need to cost €250, so it’s worthwhile to research additional costs to avoid surprises.

Activities and Excursion

Research the range of activities and excursions offered by the resort, such as snorkeling, diving, island hopping, sunset cruises, and cultural experiences, to enrich your Maldives adventure. It’s also worthwhile to inform yourself beforehand. Personally, we prefer smaller tours over excursions with many other tourists.

Family-Friendly Features

If traveling with children, look for family-friendly amenities like kid’s clubs, babysitting services, shallow pools, and safe swimming areas to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay for the whole family.

Reviews and Recommendations

Read reviews and seek recommendations from fellow travelers or reputable travel websites to gain insights into the resort’s reputation, service quality, and overall guest experiences.

Pro Tip: Check the resort’s Instagram account and visit the tagged page. Here, you’ll often find real impressions from visitors.
