Our Top Attractions in Thailand: Highlights from Our Journey
Our Thailand travel itinerary was packed with incredible experiences across four unique destinations. As part of yet another unforgettable Asia adventure, we explored everything from the cultural richness of Chiang Mai to the relaxed island vibes of Koh Lanta. Over 2.5 weeks, we started in Bangkok, flew to Chiang Mai, then traveled south to Krabi and Koh Lanta, before wrapping things up in Bangkok again. Each stop offered something completely different, making this journey as diverse as it was exciting.
Chiang Mai (5 Days)
Chiang Mai was our first big stop after a short stay in Bangkok, and it turned out to be the perfect place to kick off our adventure. With its laid-back vibe and rich cultural heritage, the city had so much to offer. We loved wandering through the charming Old Town, admiring beautiful temples like Wat Chedi Luang, and soaking up the relaxed atmosphere.
One of the most unforgettable experiences of our entire trip – and honestly, all our travels – was visiting the Patara Elephant Farm. Spending time with these gentle giants in such an ethical and caring environment was beyond incredible. After five amazing days, it was time to say goodbye to Chiang Mai and fly south to Krabi.
Krabi (3 Days)
The Krabi region was a breathtaking stop on our Thailand travel itinerary, with its dramatic limestone cliffs and turquoise waters that look straight out of a postcard. This is where touristy Thailand truly comes alive, but it’s easy to see why so many travelers flock here – the scenery is absolutely stunning. We spent our days soaking in the lively vibe at Ao Nang Beach, enjoying spectacular sunsets, and taking a longtail boat tour to explore Railay Beach and nearby islands. Each spot had its own unique charm, and while Krabi is bustling with tourists, its natural beauty and laid-back atmosphere make it a must-visit. After three unforgettable days, we took a taxi to our next destination, the tranquil island of Koh Lanta.
Koh Lanta (6 Days)
If we had to describe Koh Lanta in one word, it would be “peaceful.” This island was all about relaxing and slowing down, and we instantly fell in love with its laid-back vibe. Spending long days on Klong Nin Beach quickly became our favorite routine. For those traveling without little ones in tow, renting a scooter is the best way to explore the island freely. It allows you to discover hidden beaches, charming cafes, and some of the island’s most beautiful spots at your own pace. A visit to Lanta Old Town was another highlight, where we soaked up the local culture and discovered some fantastic plant-based dishes, proving that even in a seafood-focused town, vegan options can still impress. After six tranquil days of unwinding and island exploration, it was time to shift gears and head back to the lively buzz of Bangkok.
Bangkok (5 Days Total)
Bangkok was the perfect start and finish to our adventure, with two days at the beginning of our trip and three days at the end. The city’s energy is contagious, and we loved diving right into its exciting vibe. Lucky for us, we were in Bangkok during Songkran, the Thai New Year, and it was an experience we’ll never forget. We grabbed some water pistols, joined the crowds, and felt like kids again in the middle of all the fun and chaos. In the evenings, we enjoyed cocktails on the rooftop of the Banyan Tree Hotel. Watching the city lights from up there was simply priceless and the perfect way to end each day. Bangkok balanced out the rest of our trip, wrapping up our Thailand travel itinerary with an unforgettable mix of culture, excitement, and a touch of luxury.
Hotels and Stays We Loved in Thailand
Finding the right place to stay makes a trip so much better, and we had some fantastic experiences in Thailand. From cozy boutique hotels to luxurious escapes, here’s where we stayed and what we loved (or didn’t love) about each one.
Art Mai Gallery Hotel, Chiang Mai
In Chiang Mai, the Art Mai Gallery Hotel was the perfect mix of style and convenience. Located close to the city center, it’s easy to explore on foot or hop into a tuk-tuk (which we used all the time). The hotel had everything we needed, including a rooftop pool where we loved to relax after a day of sightseeing. Breakfast was included, and it was always fresh and delicious. This place felt like a home away from home – definitely a top pick for Chiang Mai.
Pakasai Resort, Krabi
The Pakasai Resort in Krabi was… okay. To be fair, it’s a decent place to stay, especially if you’re planning a lot of day trips and won’t be spending much time at the hotel. The rooms were fine, and the overall vibe was pleasant enough. But compared to the other places we stayed, it didn’t quite stand out. It’s not a bad choice, but we wouldn’t rave about it like the others.
Twin Lotus Spa, Koh Lanta
Our stay at the Twin Lotus Spa in Koh Lanta was pure perfection. Now an adults-only hotel, it offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere that’s perfect for couples or anyone looking for a relaxing escape. Located right on the beach, it boasts incredible views and a tranquil vibe. We really enjoyed walking along the beach to dinner and back – it was a simple but lovely part of our routine. The bungalows were super spacious, spotlessly clean, and provided all the comfort we needed. And the breakfast? Absolutely fabulous. Whether it’s for the location, the amenities, or the calm vibe, we can’t recommend this place enough for a dreamy beach getaway.
Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road
Staying at the Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road was the perfect highlight to round off our Thailand travel itinerary. This stylish hotel impressed us from the start, with its modern design, amazing service, and top-notch amenities. The rooftop bar and infinity pool were absolutely stunning, offering panoramic views of the Bangkok skyline that we couldn’t get enough of. The location was a dream, making it easy to explore the city. We walked straight to the lively Songkran celebrations and relied on public transport or taxis to get everywhere else – super convenient and hassle-free. Everything about this hotel, from the beautiful rooms to the friendly staff, made our stay unforgettable. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Bangkok, this is hands down one of the best choices for combining luxury and convenience.

Getting Around Thailand: Transport Tips for Travelers
Thailand made getting around easy, affordable, and even fun. With a mix of flights, apps, and local transport, exploring the country was smooth and enjoyable at every step!
Domestic Flights with AirAsia
For the longer trips, like Bangkok to Chiang Mai and Chiang Mai to Krabi, we booked domestic flights with AirAsia. It was super uncomplicated and affordable—perfect for saving time while covering large distances. The flights were on time, and booking everything online made it stress-free. If you’re planning a trip like ours, domestic flights are a no-brainer.
Getting Around Locally with Grab
For short trips in Chiang Mai, Krabi, and Bangkok, Grab was a lifesaver. It’s like Uber but for Thailand. The app is easy to use, the rides are affordable, and there’s no need to negotiate prices with drivers. Whether we needed a quick ride to a market or back to the hotel, Grab was always super convenient.
Bangkok: Public Transport and Taxis
Bangkok’s traffic can be crazy, but thankfully, the BTS Skytrain and MRT subway are super easy to use. They’re affordable, air-conditioned, and perfect for getting to popular spots quickly. When we weren’t using the trains, taxis were also a good option, especially for places not covered by public transport. Patara Elephant Farm, Chiang Mai
GPS Coordinates: 18.7981° N, 98.8784° E
Our visit to the Patara Elephant Farm in Chiang Mai was, without a doubt, one of the most unforgettable highlights of our Thailand travel itinerary. This ethical sanctuary not only focuses on the health, recovery, and well-being of elephants but also creates a safe and respectful environment for these gentle giants. What made our visit even more special was meeting a tiny, three-week-old elephant baby – a rare and extraordinary moment, as births only happen here every 3-5 years.
At Patara, everything revolves around the elephants’ care and recovery. Visitors are encouraged to learn about their habits, behaviors, and natural needs. There are no chains, no riding, and no forced interactions whatsoever. Instead, the emphasis is entirely on understanding their needs and contributing positively to their lives. Therefore, we cannot stress enough the importance of avoiding camps where elephants are chained, forced to perform, or ridden. Thailand, thankfully, offers many ethical sanctuaries like Patara, where conservation is the primary goal. Including a visit like this in your Thailand travel itinerary not only creates meaningful memories but also supports a better future for these incredible animals.

Koh Rok is a hidden gem and a true paradise for those seeking pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. We visited Koh Rok as a day trip by speedboat, departing from Koh Lanta. The ride takes about 45 minutes to an hour, and the journey itself is stunning, with turquoise waters and dramatic seascapes along the way. Once you arrive, you’re greeted by powdery white sand beaches, vibrant coral reefs, and lush greenery. Koh Rok is also a haven for snorkelers and photographers. Simply ask one of the drivers, and they’ll take you on a scenic 20-minute ride across the clear, blue water. The journey itself, with stunning views of cliffs rising from the sea, is absolutely worth it. When you arrive, the breathtaking scenery is perfect for capturing photos. Phra Nang Cave Beach and the viewpoint on Railay East are fantastic for unique shots. Moreover, the iconic longtail boats lined up along the shore add a true touch of Thailand’s charm.
