Unlocking Victoria’s Beauty: Must-See Stops Near Port Campbell
Twelve Apostles and Gibson Steps

One of the remarkable aspects of our adventure near Port Campbell was the accessibility of the must-see attractions. In early October, when we embarked on our journey, we were fortunate to enjoy a relatively quiet season with no significant parking issues. However, it’s important to note that during peak seasons, such as the summer months, parking availability may be more challenging, so planning ahead can be a wise move.

Our first stop was the awe-inspiring Twelve Apostles, and the journey from Port Campbell to these iconic limestone stacks was a breeze. Just a short drive away, we found ourselves standing on the viewing platforms, gazing in wonder at nature’s grandeur. It’s a sight that leaves a lasting impression, and we couldn’t have asked for a more convenient experience.

Additionally, we ventured to the Gibson Steps, where we could descend to the pristine beach below. Gibson Steps are located right next to the Twelve Apostles, so it was a seamless transition between these two incredible sites. The steps carved into the cliffside provided an exciting opportunity for adventure, especially for our little explorers.

 

Razorback

Razorback Ridge, found in Port Campbell National Park, lived up to its intriguing name. This hike provided stunning coastal views. Although it posed challenges with our kids, reaching the summit proved rewarding. The feeling of accomplishment and the breathtaking scenery made this hike an unforgettable part of our journey.

Loch Ard Gorge in Port Campbell, named after the famous shipwreck “Loch Ard,” is a natural wonder that captivated us. We followed the well-marked paths and boardwalks that guided us through this coastal haven. The gorge’s towering limestone walls and pristine beach created a serene ambiance. We could imagine the tumultuous history of shipwrecks that took place here as we explored the cave and arch formations. It was an opportunity to connect with the past while reveling in the beauty of the present.

These attractions, while diverse in their offerings, shared a common thread – they added depth and richness to our Victoria adventure. From relaxation at the Deep Blue Hot Springs to the exhilarating hike along Razorback Ridge and the historical intrigue of Loch Ard Gorge, each stop left its own unique mark on our memories.

Deep Blue Hot Pools

As we continued our journey, we stumbled upon the Deep Blue Hot Springs in Warrnambool, just a short drive from Port Campbell. These natural thermal pools offered a perfect contrast to the cool, coastal weather. Nestled amidst lush greenery, the hot springs provided a relaxing retreat for our family. We soaked in the warm, mineral-rich waters while surrounded by nature’s tranquility. It was a rejuvenating experience that left us refreshed and ready for more adventures.

 

Our Victoria Hideaways: Where to Recharge Near Loch Ard Gorge

Our journey to Loch Ard Gorge had its fair share of adventures and surprises, not all of them pleasant. After a somewhat challenging experience in Mount Gambier, we arrived in Loch Ard Gorge in the middle of the night, feeling both weary and hopeful for a better experience. Little did we know that we were about to discover a hidden gem in the form of our Airbnb accommodation.

We were tired but happy, and finding a lovely Airbnb felt like a warm hug after a long day of travel. As we entered, the soft, comforting lighting and inviting decor made us feel relaxed right away.

Well equiped

While the absence of Wi-Fi initially concerned us, it turned out to be a blessing. We cherished quality family time, relishing the serene surroundings and the simple life by the ocean. And when we did need connectivity, a nearby café offered free Wi-Fi, keeping us linked.

Our accommodation had everything we needed, especially during rainy, cold days. We appreciated the mobile heater, and the host even washed and replenished our dishes daily. It was these thoughtful touches that made our stay truly comfortable and delightful.

A Green Foodie’s Guide: Where to Eat Plant-Based in Port Campbell

For travelers with a passion for plant-based cuisine like ourselves, discovering delightful dining options is always a treat. During our time in Port Campbell, we were pleasantly surprised to find a variety of eateries that catered to our love for wholesome and plant-based fare.

12 ROCKS Beach Bar

During our exploration of Loch Ard Gorge and Port Campbell, we stumbled upon a delightful spot – 12 ROCKS Beach Bar. Here, we found a lovely beachfront location, friendly staff, and the added convenience of free Wi-Fi. It was a memorable and welcoming stop on our Victoria adventure.

As we strolled along Lord Street, we couldn’t help but notice the many charming cafes and restaurants that dotted the area. While we didn’t have the chance to try them all, these inviting establishments added to the culinary charm of Port Campbell.

Cooking at Home

On some evenings, we opted for a different culinary adventure – cooking at our cozy Airbnb retreat. The local markets and grocery stores in Port Campbell offered an abundance of fresh produce, allowing us to whip up our own plant-based creations. It was a chance to bond as a family over the joy of cooking and savoring homemade meals.

From A to B: Navigating the Wonders of Port Campbell Region

Our adventure to Port Campbell began as we left Mount Gambier in a bit of a rush, embarking on a road trip in the early evening. The route we took led us along the well-maintained Princess Highway, covering a distance of around 170 kilometers.

Once we were in Port Campbell and its surrounding areas, we were pleased to find that the streets were in excellent condition, and there were ample parking lots available. Navigating the roads was stress-free, allowing us to focus on the awe-inspiring landscapes that unfolded before us.

While we did come across various options for transportation, it’s worth noting that having a rental car provided us with the flexibility to explore at our own pace and access some of the more remote and hidden gems. While there might be solutions for travelers without a rental car, our experience indicated that having one was the most convenient way to fully savor the beauty of this region.

So, if you’re planning a trip to Victoria and intend to explore the wonders around Port Campbell and Loch Ard Gorge, consider having a rental car at your disposal for a smooth and hassle-free adventure.
