Discover Kangaroo Island: The Unmissable Highlights

Our Island adventure was nothing short of a wildlife extravaganza. Here are some remarkable highlights from our 3-day journey:

Kangaroo Island Admirals Arch
Admirals Arch and the Sea Lions at Flinders Chase National Park

One of the coolest places on Kangaroo Island is Admirals Arch in Flinders Chase National Park. Imagine this: huge rocks, crashing waves, and cute sea lions chilling on the rocks. We watched these sea lions and took lots of pictures. It felt like a dream come true.

Emu Bay – A Special Adventure

Emu Bay gave us a unique adventure. We drove a 4×4 on a beautiful sandy beach that looked like paradise. On our way to the bay, we saw koalas in the trees, which was pretty cool. But the best part was when we saw dolphins playing in the water on our way back.

Red Banks and Little Sahara

One evening, we found ourselves at Red Banks, and the sunset there was truly incredible. The sky transformed into a mesmerizing canvas of colors, painting a picture that took our breath away.

While we heard about Little Sahara and the thrill of sandboarding, we decided not to try it this time. We had similar adventures in Oman and New Zealand, so we chose to soak up other unique experiences Kangaroo Island had to offer. Likewise, we skipped Seal Bay because we were captivated by the charm of Admirals Arch.

Restful Nights on Kangaroo Island: Our Accommodation

During our Kangaroo Island adventure, we had the pleasure of staying at the Seaview Motel in Kingscote, and it was truly an amazing experience. We opted for the family apartment, and it exceeded our expectations in every way.

The children absolutely loved it, and we were thrilled with how clean and cozy it was. The motel’s location was also incredibly convenient, situated not far from the ferry terminal, making our travels on and off the island a breeze.

One fantastic perk of this accommodation was the natural pool within walking distance from the motel. Additionally, the availability of free parking made our stay on the island even more convenient.

Navigating Kangaroo Island: Our Road Trip Adventure

Our Kangaroo Island road trip was made even more exciting with our 4×4 rental car from Sixt, a Toyota Prado. It provided us with the perfect blend of comfort and capability, allowing us to explore the island with ease.

Getting to Kangaroo Island is an adventure in itself. We took the ferry from Cape Jervis, and it’s essential to book your ferry tickets in advance, especially during peak seasons when spots can be limited. As a bonus, if you’re lucky, you might even spot some whales during the ferry ride. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the best weather and sea conditions, so our encounter was limited to a bit of sea turbulence and the little ones dealed with seasickness.

Kangaroo Island may not have a vast network of roads, but the few main routes it does have are in excellent condition, making for smooth travels. However, it’s crucial to plan ahead, especially when it comes to fuel stops. In the area around Flinders Chase National Park, petrol stations can be sparse, so it’s wise to ensure you have enough fuel to cover the distances. Never underestimate the distances on this beautiful island.
